MISSION
STATEMENT
The General Federation of Women's Clubs is an international women's
organization dedicated to community improvement by enhancing the
lives of others through volunteer service.
HISTORY
Chartered by Congress in 1901 the Federation's goal is to encourage
women to improve their skills, expand their rights, and apply
their abilities and special sensitivity to the problems of their
communities and nations. The Woman's Club of Laguna Beach was
organized by a group of community-minded women in 1922 to benefit
the residents of Laguna Beach through philanthropic activities.
They met in a building at the site of the current City hall. When
the City asked the Woman's Club to exchange its original property
for another site in town, the Club exacted the condition that
the City never remove the beautiful pepper tree that fronts City
hall, and it remains to this day. In 1950, the Club built an attractive
building with an ocean
view at the corner of Glenneyre and St. Ann's. Most Club events
are held in the Clubhouse which is also made available for rent
to the community.
