Not looking for fancy - just want a cool, laid back, beachy type bar / restaurant with a casual atmosphere, good food and drinks. Where to go?

Sandpiper is a good, local place (dive) - also try Marine Room, White House. Also Hennessey's Tavern that has a happy hour and early bird menu. If you want to step it up a bit, go to the rooftop lounge at K'ya.

Hennessey's Tavern located at 213 Ocean Ave. sounds like the perfect stop for you. There is an open air patio downstairs, the happy hour and service is great! I have held a couple of private parties upstairs as well. The staff is very welcoming and the atmosphere is a casual, neighborhood, talk to the guy next to ya, type of feel.
