My fiance and I are getting married in July and are planning to take our "engagement session" pictures down at the cliffs in Laguna Beach. However, our photographer (who is Cerritos-based) told us that the city of Laguna imposes a $250 photography fee to take pictures there. Is this true? Are there photography 'police' patrolling the beaches? Sorry if this email sounds ridiculous but we'd really like to take our pictures down there!!

Any and all help will be greatly appreciated.

Yes, it is true based on your use of a professional photographer for your pix. We hear the application fee for the permit is $150 and then there's a $250 fee for one day (additional days incur additional fees). In addition, you must have show and prove to the city you have liability insurance (one million dollar policy) which names Laguna Beach as an additional insured. The Laguna Beach Municipal Ordinance Code is: 5.66.010

For more information and to confirm, please contact Lynn B. at the City of Laguna Beach at this number: 949-497-3311 x426. Best time to reach her is on Monday. ;)

Good luck!

Hi, I have a question. My friends and I want to go to Laguna Beach and take pictures. you know like just a bunch of girls having fun taking pictures in modeling poses hahahha. I want to know if that is legal? From what the replier above said I am wondering if I can still take pictures with my friends without getting a photo permit. Thanks in advance.

If your setup appears too professional you're going to need a permit. If you are just posing and taking pictures without getting in the way of other tourists, that should not be a problem.
