View Full Version : Laguna Beach Holiday Plans

Hi, my name is Will and I live in Oxford, England. Three friends and I are planning a two or three week holiday in Orange County next year. We've considered a few different places in Orange County but, as with so many tourists, we're drawn to Laguna Beach because of what we've seen on MTV (I hate to admit it!). Having spent some time researching Laguna Beach in tourist guides, it looks like a great place for us to stay.

We'd like to travel in the summer but I think it'll be too expensive at that time of year, so we'll probably go in early April (i.e. Easter holidays) instead. What is the weather like in April compared with the peak of the summer? Would we still be able to hit the beach?

Some other questions:

Does Laguna Beach have a good night life? Are the nightclubs/bars of a good standard? I.e. are they busy, and full of attractive young people?!

Is Laguna Beach a good base for us to travel to other parts of California? For example, we hope to travel to the Staples Center in LA to check out a basketball game or two - is that do-able (in terms of travel time)?

Do you get many English tourists in Laguna Beach, or are we likely to be some of the only ones there in April 2007?

Thanks so much for your helps - this website is proving very useful.

Hello Will!

April is considered off-season in Laguna Beach, therefore, the hotel rates are lower. The average high temperature in April is 22°C (71°F) and the average low temperature is 9°C (49°F). The temperature of the Pacific Ocean is always a bit chilly, even during the summer. In April, according to the National Oceanographic Data Center, the average water 15ºC (60ºF) the first half of the month and 16ºC (61ºF) the second half of the month (BRRR!).

From Laguna Beach to the Staples Center in Los Angeles is about 52 miles (about 84 Kilometers). You can easily make a day trip - just beware of LA rush hour traffic!

In April, the nightlife won't be hopping as it would during the busiest time of the year in Laguna (summer), but you and your friends will likely still have fun!

Thanks for your help, Jojo!

Those chilly water temperatures are probably no different to what we're used to in England - I can live with that! The 22°C air temperature in April sounds pretty warm. We're not entirely certain we'll be travelling in April - we might wait until the summer, because it gives us longer to save money, even if the prices will be more expensive.

Can you think of any major pros and cons of us staying in a villa compared with a hotel?

Do you know if many English tourists visit Laguna Beach? (I asked this question to a few travel agents in England and they said barely anyone enquires about holidays to Orange County - which is a good thing, because we want to do something a little different to most people).

Something I struggle with is trying to gauge the size of Laguna Beach. On the MTV programme (hardly a real representation, I know!) it seems like a large, busy town. Whereas in the tour guides it describes it as a sleepy village - very different to how it appears on TV!

I'll probably have more questions at a later date. Thanks once again!

Hi Kevin!

Seems like a lot of people are visiting Laguna Beach after they've seen how beautiful it is on the TV show. I wonder how similar it is to that in reality? I'm not going to get my hopes up too much, just in case, but fingers crossed it's full of beautiful girls like LC and Kristin :D Haha, a man can dream!

I'm 95% sure that I'm going in April 2007. We've found a place that we really like - it would cost nearly double as much in the summer, so it makes sense to go a little bit earlier. Plus it's basketball season in April, so we can check out a few games.

Regarding apartments, just type "laguna beach holiday rentals" into google and see what comes up - plenty of good websites, such as these:

vacationrentals.com
cyberrentals.com
10kvacationrentals.com
a1vacations.com

If you're there in April maybe we can meet up. If not, good luck arranging your holiday. I don't use MSN but you can contact me via Myspace: http://www.myspace.com/hopeless_speechless

Most students go backpacking around Australia or Eastern Europe, but you've decided to spend a month in one of the most expensive parts of the States? Good for you! :D

I must admit, the high costs have forced us to travel a little earlier in the year than we originally intended, but as long as we can keep it below £2,000 ($4,000) each for two weeks, then I'm happy.

I'll check out the link when I get home from work.

£350? That's cheaper than I've seen. The cheapest flights that I've found in July were over £600. In April, about £420. Where did you see the £350 flights?

I watched the clip - it wasn't really my taste in humour, but I did like the send-up of Kristin's annoying habbit of screeching the name "Jessica!" at full volume!

Laguna Beach has a particularly high average income and crime seems pretty low. I'm not worried about that at all. I'm more worried about the sharks!
