WoW: Emergent Media Phenomenon
Laguna Art Museum, 307 Cliff
Drive at North Coast Highway, Laguna Beach / WoW: Emergent
Media Phenomenon explores various forms of cultural production
based on World of Warcraft in particular and on gaming in general.
While surveying Warcraft’s Fifteen-year history, the exhibition
looks at artistic practices that have been influenced by game
culture. The actual works by the producer of World of Warcraft,
Blizzard Entertainment (headquartered in Irvine, California),
provide a starting point and reference. Fourteen international
artists were selected to consider this movement with the following
themes in mind: elements of desire, the collapse of fantasy,
medievalism, creative critiques, and public intervention. Artists
in this exhibition take on the visual marker of World of Warcraft
to consider, implications of gaming, and their greater impact
on our culture. In addition to the works of these artists, fan
art and the growing culture of machinima (computer animation
that uses the graphic engines from video games) will be explored
in this exhibition. Call (949) 494-8971 for more information.

by the National Choreographers Initiative. Be there for the birth
of, not one, but four new ballets created as part of the intensive
3-week process of the National Choreographers Initiative. Director
Molly Lynch has invited four choreographers of note - Sidra Bell,
Deanna Carter, Rick McCullough, and Olivier Wevers - as well as
sixteen professional dancers from ballet companies across the country,
to participate. NCI is a southern California project with national
influence. In its first four years, NCI has brought 16 choreographers
to California to develop new works. Twelve of the pieces begun here
have gone on to be premiered or developed further and performed
elsewhere in the U.S. and abroad. The project culminates in a public
performance that showcases the excitement of new creation. It’s
also an opportunity to hear the choreographers talk about their
concepts and ideas and for you to ask questions and participate
in the discussion. It's an eye-opening journey into the world of

Theatre - Festival of Arts is located at 625 Laguna Canyon Road,
Laguna Beach, CA 92651 / The Stephen Sondheim classic musical containing
"Side-by-Side", "You Could Drive a Person Crazy",
"Here's to the Ladies that Lunch" and "Being Alive".
On the night of his 35th birthday, confirmed bachelor Robert contemplates
his unmarried state. In vignette after hilarious vignette, we are
introduced to "those good and crazy people," his married
friends, as Robert weighs the pros and cons of married life. In
the end, he realizes being alone is "alone, not alive."
